Ghazal Manch Surrey organized a book release event for two of their founding members at Newton Library. Punjabi master poet Krishna Bhanot's ghazal book 'Gehre Panian Vich' and Rajwant Raj's novel 'Varole Di Joon' were released to the public and discussions were held on these two books. At the beginning of the event, the general secretary of Ghazal Manch Surrey, Davinder Gautam, welcomed everyone. He shared accomplishments about Ghazal Manch Surrey, and their commitment to Ghazal poetry including their amazing accomplishment of publishing poetry books.
The first analysis on Krishna Bhanot's ghazal collection 'Gehre Paniyan Vich' was presented by Dr. Kamaljit Kaur. She recited selected couplets from the book and described it as a great addition to Punjabi ghazals. Poet Hardam Mann presented the second analysis on this book, he said that Krishna Bhanot's poetry is very simple, plain, clear, easy, natural, and a bouquet of words full of beauty. This Shayari is food for the soul, this is the poetry which overcome the sadness. This poetry removes the mountains of sorrows from the paths of happiness and matures the art of living. In this collection, Krishna Bhanot has presented a multi-faceted view of the subtlety, delicacy, simplicity, beauty, conflict and many other aspects of the ghazal through very beautiful metaphors, images, colors and gestures.
Dr. Harjot Kaur Khaira presented her analysis on Rajwant Raj's novel 'Vorole di Joon'. She eloquently analyzed his novel narrative, mood of characters and story. She said that this novel presents the reality of the social and mental condition of the current new generation in Canada. The style of the novel is charming, and the speech of the characters is very natural. The thinking and approach of the new generation towards human relations has been accurately depicted in this novel. Harchand Singh Bagri presented the second analysis of this book as he discussed the story at length and he introduced the characters of the novel. Preet Manpreet stated that while Rajwant Raj is a serious poet of Punjabi ghazal, he has created a discussion in the field of novels with his first novel Piondh and his second novel 'Varole di June' is also being well received in the literary circles.
More importantly, several literary scholars discussed that Rajwant’s novels should be part of the curriculum in Punjab schools. The reason is that both of Rajwant’s novels accurately portray challenges Indo-Canadians face here during assimilation, and they paint a true picture of astonishing problems in relationships. This is important information for people who seek Canadian Immigration. Some immigrants from India choose to see Canada in rose-colored glasses, and once they arrive here; they are shocked by the realities.
Dr. Prithi Pal Singh Sohi congratulated the two authors and described Rajwant Raj's novel as a good work in the field of Punjabi novels and especially Canadian Punjabi literature. Principal Surinderpal Kaur Brar, Inderjit Kaur Sidhu, Dr. Sadhu Singh, Inderjit Dhami, Bhupinder Malhi, Mohan Gill, Jarnail Singh Artist, Jasveer Singh Bhaluria and Nadeem Parmar also congratulated Krishna Bhanot and Rajwant Raj for their new literary works. Finally, Krishna Bhanot and Rajwant Raj thanked the scholars, writers and friends who attended the event. As the book release event concluded, the guests remained in the room to congratulate the authors and for photo opportunities.
