Jaswinder is a very popular Punjabi ghazal poet respected internationally. Jaswinder’s ghazal collection Agarbatti was awarded the "Bharatiya Sahitya Akademi”. He has also been awarded the Shiromani Punjabi Kavi Puraskar of the Department of Languages, Punjab. According to his own statement: "Ghazal-composition is not merely a hobby for me, but an expression of my social factual commitment as it is in any other poetic genre or nazm".
Jaswinder’s ghazal poetry consists of complex and deep metaphors allowing his readers or listeners to interpret a silent message pertaining to human nature and human predictability. He writes ghazal poetry by adhering to the strict centuries old traditional composition yet maintaining the unique distinctive patterns. When Jaswinder writes, he is present in his poetry, and his philosophical thoughts clearly reflect in his multilayered metaphors to empower his readers.
Jaswinder immigrated to Canada, and he now resides in Surrey. While in Surrey, he connected with other talented ghazal poets and together they formed Ghazal Manch Surrey. The literature published and presented by this group is at a standard not seen before. As such, Ghazal Manch Surrey has successfully established itself on the world stage.
